Our Company

Built on patience and honest work

Cinnabar was founded in Hong Kong to bring thoughtful AI implementation to organisations that value doing things properly — without the noise of overpromised outcomes.

Who We Are

A small firm with a clear sense of purpose

Cinnabar began from a simple observation: many Hong Kong businesses were curious about AI but found the landscape confusing and the typical vendors unhelpfully vague. We set out to offer something different — an advisory and implementation practice that starts with listening rather than selling.

We focus on three areas where AI delivers tangible value for local organisations: logistics optimisation, multilingual communication, and organisational readiness. Each of these reflects real challenges we've encountered repeatedly in Hong Kong's commercial environment — the density of urban logistics, the complexity of cross-language collaboration, and the gap between AI ambition and AI readiness.

Our approach is deliberate. Before recommending anything, we take time to understand how your organisation actually operates — its existing systems, its people, its priorities. The work that follows is shaped by that understanding. We don't apply a template and call it a solution.

We're based at 29 Bonham Strand in Sheung Wan — close to many of the clients we serve — and we work across industries including trade, logistics, professional services, and finance. Most of our engagements begin with a conversation and a careful assessment of where AI can genuinely help.

The Team

People who take the work seriously

Small enough to stay close to every engagement. Experienced enough to navigate complex AI challenges.

KL

Kevin Lam

Principal, AI Strategy

Kevin leads strategic engagements and AI maturity assessments, with a background spanning enterprise technology consulting and applied machine learning across the Asia-Pacific region.

SC

Sophia Chan

Lead Engineer, NLP Systems

Sophia architects and implements our language translation systems, with particular expertise in Cantonese-Mandarin-English models and domain-specific vocabulary adaptation.

MT

Marcus Tsang

Optimisation Engineer

Marcus builds the algorithmic models behind our logistics optimisation work, with a focus on combinatorial scheduling and constraint satisfaction across complex urban delivery environments.

Standards & Practices

How we approach every engagement

The protocols below aren't a marketing list — they reflect how we actually structure our work.

Data Privacy Protocols

We define data handling requirements before any work begins. Sensitive information stays within agreed boundaries — on-premises deployment is available where required.

Transparent Evaluation

Every solution is evaluated against defined success metrics before and after deployment. We share results honestly — including where performance needs adjustment.

Documented Methodology

Our work is documented throughout — so your team understands what was built, why decisions were made, and how to maintain or extend the system after handover.

Ethical AI Commitments

We consider downstream impacts in all our work — bias evaluation, interpretability requirements, and human oversight are built into our standard engagement process.

Team Knowledge Transfer

We invest time in helping your team understand the systems we build. Where appropriate, we run working sessions designed to build internal capability alongside delivery.

Industry Recognition

Cinnabar is a recognised member of the Hong Kong Computer Society and holds professional affiliations with the AI and data science community in the Asia-Pacific region.

Our Perspective

AI adoption as a deliberate, organisational process

Cinnabar operates at the intersection of technical depth and organisational reality. Our practitioners bring experience across algorithmic optimisation, natural language processing, and strategic assessment — applied specifically within the Hong Kong business context.

We recognise that AI adoption succeeds or fails based on factors well beyond the technology itself. Data readiness, internal champions, governance structures, and realistic timelines all shape outcomes. Our engagements address these dimensions directly rather than treating them as secondary concerns.

For organisations in logistics, financial services, professional services, and trade — sectors where Hong Kong has particular strength — we bring a set of tools and frameworks calibrated to local operating conditions. This means adapting to Cantonese-language workflows, to the density and pace of urban Hong Kong logistics, and to the cross-border commercial relationships that characterise many of our clients' businesses.

We believe the most durable AI implementations are those built with care, clearly understood by the teams who use them, and designed to evolve as your organisation changes. That is the standard we hold ourselves to.

We'd welcome the chance to introduce ourselves properly

An initial conversation costs nothing and often clarifies quite a lot. We're happy to explain how we work and whether we're a good fit for what you're exploring.
